OCT13: Anacronysm – Abstraction of a Concept

An anachronism is, by definition, something out of time, more or less. This series, Anacronysm – Abstraction of a Concept, was out of time / step with what I had been doing previously. It focused more on manipulation and abstraction of existing images than developing something from scratch.

Yes, I took some liberties with the spelling. You can too when you create something…lol. I’m mainly an Adobe Illustrator person, I have an extreme fondness for vectors, creating with math, and being able to scale endlessly still excites me, heh.

This was an exercise with Photoshop. I’d had a class project at one point that was basically take this image and turn it into not this image and this expanded on that.

I’ve believe that not everything you do is going to be awesome, but the exploration and learning are part of the journey. This thing may not be ‘perfect’ but it gets you one step to the next thing that will be better.

I also believe in at least trying to create and use my own assets to stay away from possibly pesky copyright issues. I had a short term job with an employer once who believed Google was his personal free image gallery for his business. I still cringe. I wonder if they are still in business publishing phone books…lol.

I always wondered why they weren’t able to somehow create vector tv, but then they came out with HD, then Full HD, and on and on…

When I figured out the actual print size of 1920×1080 @300 dpi I found my niche. Unfortunately, it isn’t a standard print size, nor does it scale to one, so…I only realized that a bit more recently when I now have to go in and readjust things…lol. But, I stand by my unrequited love of the format!!!

Essentially this was taking existing assets and scaling them to the 1920 x 1080 format and using a combination of Photoshop filters to abstract the image into something completely different. I marked this down as a success…lol…
