You know that thing when you’re sitting there bored, just doodling, and you hit on something interesting and it blossoms into a whole project? Welcome to Stroke!
The whole idea behind Stroke! came from playing around in Adobe Illustrator, just using the pen tool to click around. Initially it was frustrating because it was not what I was trying to do, but the kismet of the process became interesting enough to explore.
If you keep the Fill on when you click around in Illustrator it starts to do interesting things, particularly when you start crossing the line over itself. Then change the line with one of the brushes and I started getting some really interesting results.
This appealed to the mid-century modernist in me…lol…each piece in the series was a progression of the exploration.
The idea doesn’t go much deeper than playing around and seeing what happens.
